What will I see?

What will I see?

The Picasso Museum and the surrounding Gothic and Ribera quarters are testimony to the close tie between the artist and the city. With this tour you will follow Picasso’s footprint in the city and discover the bond between Picasso and Barcelona.

Picasso Museum

Be inspired by the first steps of Pablo Picasso as an artist. The museum is key to understand the development of this young artist into a genious from 1887 to 1901. It is housed in 5 medieval palaces and was inaugurated in 1963 at the expressed wish of the artist.

The museum has a collection of 4200 pieces of art, we especially recommend:

  • Picasso’s full unfolding from a child up to the Blue Period
  • A representation of works from 1917
  • The series of las Meninas, 1957
  • A comprehensive print collection

Gothic Quarter

This is the core of the city, where it all started 2000 years ago. Enjoy the Gothic Quarter’s charming corners and squares hidden away down ancient narrow streets. During the walking tour you will make 3 stops to travel back in time to Roman age and have a better understanding of the origins of the city. For that you will observe the streets with virtual reality glasses. What you will see?

  • First stop; The Roman Tinctoria: where fabrics were dyed –  an important busines, as the color of one’s clothes was an signifier of Rank or role in Roman society.
  • Second stop; Temple de Augustus: The forum- a large public square – stood at the centre of urban life in Roman Barcelona. Our guides will explain you secrets that happen in its interior.
  • Third stop; Roman wall & Moncada Aqueduct: As an importanthub of trade, Roman “Barcino” was protected by impressive city walls and watered by the Moncada aqueduct. You will see how were these constructions originally. This infrastructure was carried out by using water tanks and wells and two aqueducts that brought the water from the river Besòs and from the Collserola mountain. Both aqueducts got together and converged on the Roman wall in the Gothic Quarter.

"Really informative and entertaining"
If you're into art, culture and a bit of history, this would be a great tour. Walked through the gothic quarters, went into the Picasso museum and the guide guided us through his evolution through the years. Then finally saw a few Roman remains with the VR.

Highly Recommend Tour – USA Group
The Picasso Museum and Gothic Quarter Tour was fantastic. It was clear Tonja knew her historical knowledge of the Gothic Quarter and Barcelona history. The Picasso Museum was aw inspiring. Highly recommend this tour and cannot say enough good things about Tonja/very impressed. The 4 teenage children we had with us enjoyed the tour as well/never assumed with teenagers.

"Way worth the time – do not miss this!"
This tour, along with the Sagrada Familia tour, are "do not misses" when you are in Barcelona. The museum is organized chronologically to reflect the phases of PIcasso's styles as he moved through life. Getting detailed background of Picasso's life, in addition to his paintings, was so incredibly interesting. The 3 hours flew by. Being able to see visual representations of how the buildings and streets have transitioned from Roman times was quite interesting too. Make sure you have a good understanding of exactly where you are meeting the guides with their big orange umbrellas to start the tour….the square is big and it could take you a while to find them if you don't google street view the exact address. Big orange umbrellas to the rescue!

Fabulous tour, started on time with a friendly, very knowledgeable guide. Good pace, very interesting and affordable. Guide uses a sound system in which everyone gets an ear piece so you can hear all of the wonderful commentary. The app was very helpful and convenient, especially in providing directions to the meeting point. Even without the virtual reality piece, an exceptional tour. Gracious, Arturo!

"Barcelona Guide Bureau Gothic Quarter Walking Tour"
TripAdvisor review: by Andy M on Jan 11, 2019

My family had a wonderful tour today with Tanja Martinovic. Her knowledge of the history and culture, as well as her english, were all excellent. My wife and I had taken the same tour many years ago, but it was the first time for our two adult children. My wife & I enjoyed recalling many things from our last visit (a testamemt to the last tour guide from this agency). During our walk, Tanja was able to provide additional historical insights for places we had seen and she included several new and unique places that only a seasoned and knowledgable guide of the locality would be aware of. We highly recommend Barcelona Guide Bureau if you are planning a visit to this beautiful city.

"Good Picasso Overview"
TripAdvisor review: by Ruby G on Nov 26, 2018

Took the one hour walking tour of Picasso's haunts in the Gothic Quarter and then the one hour guided tour of the Picasso Museum. The combination was good and you could spend more time in the museum if you wished. It was interesting to see all the places Picasso frequented when living in Barcelona and hear the stories of his life there and then spend time enjoying his work in the museum. The guide we had was entertaining and knew his stuff.

“Very good and value for my money” 4/5 stars

The tour I joined is a relatively small size one that makes it feel like a semi-private tour. The tour guide is good and fluent in English (comparatively better than the other tour guides I received in tours with another companies). If you would love to find out a bit more about Picasso and the Old Town in Barcelona, this morning walking tour is a good one.

The PICASSO Museum Tour yesterday, June 8, was excellent! Perfect, easy to find meeting place, well organized reception, good whisper boxes, great guide who did not walk or talk too fast as most do.
Aida was very attentive to our group, very knowledgable and presented very well. In our years of travel guides she definitely ranks as one of the very best and BGB one of the best client-responsive guide bureaus.

We took the Picasso Museum and Gothic Quarter tour. The guide was absolutely lovely and knowledgeable. She gave us a great experience and lots of information. Very good, maybe a little short but you can always go back revisit the places as the area is not that big

“Great way to discover Barcelona” 5/5 stars
We used Barcelona Guide Bureau on our recent trip to Barcelona. We went on two tours: the Gaudi/Sagrada Familia and the Gothic/Picasso Museum tours. Both tours were excellent. The guides were knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a great way to see the city and I would highly recommend it.

“Excellent tours with first class guides” 5/5 stars
We booked the All Barcelona Highlights Tour ahead of our trip and enjoyed it so much that we backed up the next day with the Picasso Museum and Gothic Quarter Walking Tour. Both were excellent, and well led by experienced guides Danny and Ally respectively. They were enthusiastic about the subject matter of their tours and seemed very knowledgeable. Both were able to answer rather obscure questions that I thought were well outside the tour boundaries.

We would have no hesitation in recommending BGB.
