Cavas Codorníu (bodegas de vino)

Los viñedos de Codorníu y el proceso de elaboración del vino se remontan a 1551. Desde entonces los valores tradicionales catalanes han ido de la mano de la innovación y el espíritu empresarial. Son las bodegas subterráneas más grandes del mundo, donde se produjo la primera botella de vino espumoso español en 1872 por el método champenoise tradicional (el mismo que el champán francés), y fue nombrado cava.

Arquitectura y paisaje, con edificios de estilo modernista en medio de hileras de viñas, proporcionan una primera impresión única al llegar a la catedral del cava. Las bodegas Codorníu se crearon entre 1895 y 1915 por el arquitecto modernista Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Es uno de los ejemplos más importantes de cómo la arquitectura modernista y sus diseños visionarios cumplen con las necesidades prácticas de las industrias.

Es el lugar ideal para seguir todo el proceso de prensado de la uva y el etiquetado de las botellas. El vino fermenta al menos 9 meses en una botella, en la oscuridad y a la temperatura constante de las bodegas subterráneas. La visita a las grandes bodegas continúa con un recorrido en un pequeño tren eléctrico y termina con una cata del cava.

Montserrat

Montserrat es una montaña, un parque natural único, y una roca masiva con más de 4000 pies de altura, visible por millas, con formas extrañas basadas en picos redondeados que apuntan hacia el cielo. Hay caminos, escaleras, cuevas, capillas y ermitas dispersas por la montaña, paisajes extraordinarios y unas vistas maravillosas.

Montserrat es un monasterio benedictino de casi 1000 años de edad, ubicado a mitad camino en la montaña y al abrigo de sus picos. Hay una basílica de la capilla de la Virgen de Montserrat conocida como La Moreneta, patrona de Cataluña, una virgen muy sentida y reverenciada. La comunidad de monjes también dirige una escuela de varones dedicada al estudio de la música.

Montserrat es cultura: una biblioteca de cerca de 300.000 volúmenes, un coro de niños cantores que es el más antiguo en Europa, una basílica llena de pinturas, lámparas de oro y capillas decoradas, un museo con pinturas de El Greco, Picasso y Dalí, entre muchos otros y los tesoros del antiguo Egipto.

Pintoresca Ruta: a lo largo del río Llobregat hasta el pie de la espectacular montaña de Montserrat (su nombre significa dentada, una referencia a sus picos que sobresalen), un parque natural que no te puedes perder. Luego el recorrido continúa hasta el santuario de 725m (2380 pies) sobre el nivel del mar. Tu guía te entretendrá con cuentos, historias y leyendas de la montaña, el monasterio y el santuario. El viaje de vuelta será una ruta alternativa acompañada de grabaciones de una variedad de música tradicional catalán.

Monasterio de Montserrat: visita guiada de orientación. A la llegada a Montserrat tu guía te dará un recorrido orientado a los principales lugares de interés: Monasterio, basílica, museo con una maravillosa colección de pinturas, Estaciones de la Cruz, así como bares, restaurantes, tiendas y productos artesanales en el mercado que hay a pie de calle.

Montserrat Basílica: Debes mantener silencio dentro de la iglesia. Tu guía te dará explicaciones fuera y te mostrará la capilla con la figura del siglo XII de la Virgen de Montserrat.

"Amazing guided tour with Sonia"

We just had a half day tour of Montserrat with our guide Sonia. It’s one of our best experience with guided tours. She was very informative, hard working and never had a dull moment with her sense of humor and historical facts about development of Barcelona all through the years. Montserrat is an amazing place to visit with breathtaking views of the mountains and the Cathedral itself. It’s at least an hour drive from Barcelona but it’s all worth it. We’re glad we decided to visit during this time of year when the weather is on the cooler side otherwise I couldn’t just imagine how humid it’s going to be on Summertime when lots of people all over the world are on holidays and wanting to go places like this. Hats off to you Sonia for a job well done!Thanks again!

"Very good tour"
It was raining a lot on the day of the tour, there was no problem with the bus move. The guide also spoke a little Japanese and was a very kind person. We were able to taste two types of sparkling, rose and white too! Since Montserrat will rise to the top with a car, we did not ride in trucks or ropeway. Overall it was a fulfilling tour, but I thought it was okay even if I had some more time at Monserrat".

"Very knowledgeable and convenient" 5/5 stars

We chose the Montserrat, Cordorniu cellars, and Sagrada Familia combined tour. Though it was most certainly a busy and full day, I feel like I left Barcelona seeing everything I really wanted to see during a far too short stay. The cava cellars were expansive, the monastery impressive, and the basilica overwhelming.

I knew almost nothing about Gaudi before this trip, but Irina's extensive knowledge on the subject really added another dimension to the Sagrada Familia portion of the tour. She provided in depth explanations of elements in the architecture that helped me to understand and appreciate the unique architecture much more than I expected.

Get ready to see a lot and learn a lot in a short amount of time.

"Outstanding Tour and staff!". 5/5 stars

We did a lot of research ahead of time to find the right tour and the right tour company. We chose the tour that included a combination of Montserrat & Codorníu. This was a present to my sister and her husband for their 40th wedding anniversary. We wanted Codorniu because that was the champagne they had at their wedding. My husband is a History Prof. and he wanted to see Montserrat, so the perfect combo. Everything was handled with ease and efficiency from booking the tour online, to getting directions where to meet. Our guide and driver were awesome. Personable, full of great information, and the tour was run extremely well. They were on top of every little detail and made sure the day ran smoothly, without any problems. We owned a tour company in the past so really appreciated how well everything was handled from start to finish. The tour of Codorniu was very interesting, the electric train ride thru the cellars was fun,and the perfect ending was in the tasting room. Montserrat was amazing and we could have spent a lot more time there. Don't miss the art gallery at the Monastery and the Funicular. The vendors had all kinds of delicious honey and fruits and even some great liqueurs made from plants grown on the mountain. We would definitely return here and spend the whole day. We went the end of May so it was not too crowded, temperatures were lovely and it could not have been a more perfect day! Thank you!!!! We highly recommend the Barcelona Guide Bureau.

"Fantastic tour, amazing service" 5/5 stars

I booked a tour that visited both the codorniu vineyard and montserrat. The tour was fantastic, we were led by Sonia and she was a superb guide, full of interesting information and witty anecdotes and at no point did i ever feel that we were short of time to see anything I would definitely book another tour with them.

We took the combined trip to the Cordorniu Winery and then to Monserrat. Both tours were fabulous, well organised and our guide, Laura, was fantastic. We would recommend to all, day not too long and not too short with the added bonus of having some sparkling wine in the morning. “An amazing day.” 5/5 stars

My wife and I did the BGB Montserrat and winery tour. From the very start we were welcomed so warmly. The whole day was brilliant. The first stop was the Codorniu winery, where they make cava, Spain's version of champagne. This was absolutely amazing. Going down to the caves, trips via a little train system and a great tasting at the end. No pressure was put on us to buy anything either. The whole experience here was so well planned. Then onto Montserrat. Again, so we'll done. A quick tour around and some explanations, and we were given 2 hours to ourselves. We ended up doing the walk to St Michaels cross, and although it was arduous, the view was worth it all. Fantastic. We had a great driver and our guide was superb. She really helped us with everything, and was so informative. This is a very worthwhile day excursion, and the 66 euro per person. Very professional. We had a superb day.

The Barcelona Guide Bureau prepared a fantastic visit of Montserrat and the Codorniu winery. Our guide was extraordinary, speaking at least 4 languages and giving us a cultural tour on the way to the mountain! What a wonderful day!

“Many tours, all fantastic & well organized!” 5/5 stars

While in Barcelona for 2 weeks, I took 5 tours with this company and 2 with different companies. The tours I took were The Magic Fountain Night Tour, The Gaudi Tour, The Dali Museum Tour, Picasso Museum & Gothic Quarter Walking Tour, and Montserrat & Codorníu Wine Cellars Tour. I thoroughly enjoyed them all!

Comparing this company to others, I think this one is the best. They are very organized & structured, with all the staff exactly knowing what to do and when. The tour guides were very personable, knowledgeable, and professional. I was staying in the Gothic Quarters, so it was very easy for me to find the meeting point for the tour departures. They made getting to the destinations easy and I learned so much while being on these tours. They knew all sorts of interesting tidbits, legends, facts, and history to tell while traveling to the destination and, of course, while at the destination. I definitely would not have enjoyed visiting the sites near as much without a tour from this company.

While all 5 tours I took I greatly enjoyed, The Magic Fountain Night Tour and Montserrat & Codorníu Wine Cellars Tour were probably my two favorites. The Night Tour is a great "introduction to Barcelona" tour because they drive you around (great way to get your bearings) and show you the main sites on the way up Montjuic (which isn't easy to get to otherwise) all before the Magic Fountain show. Afterwards they drop you off near your hotel so you don't have to worry about finding your way back in the dark.
The Montserrat & Codorníu Wine Cellars Tour was also one of my favorites because you got to see some sites outside of the city center that otherwise would be near impossible to get to without your own vehicle. If you like wine, and amazing monasteries (or just mountains and the view from them), then this is a must do!

“Montserrat and codorniu wine tour” 5/5 stars

The wine tour alone was worth the price the tour includes two small train rides one in the cellars 30 Kilometers of underground wine cellars with genuine antique wine making equipment and the wine tasting gives you two full glasses of cava. The Montserrat mountain is a must visit just for the ride up the mountain

“Montserrat & Codorniu Wine Cellars” 5/5 stars

We booked this tour from our hotel Alexandra Double Tree by Hilton. The young lady who sold us the tour was very friendly and helpful. Our tour guide Arturo was excellent! He was friendly, thoughtful and respectful; his passion for history came through. Not only did he make our tour interesting, he gave us helpful hints on touring Barcelona, this information helped us with the rest of our visit. First we went to the Cordorniu Wine Cellars, since my husband and I are interested in history, food and wine; we really enjoyed the tour. Montserrat was breath-taking, next time we want to spend an entire day at Montserrat. Thank you to the staff at Barcelona Guide Bureau for providing us with such beautiful memories of Spain.

“Nice trip to Codorniu and Montserrat” 4/5 stars

Small group + great guide (named Arthur) + nice places = pleasant day 😉
Everything was well planned and executed.
We were a little disappointed by the cloister children choir – we were waiting for it in huge crowd for an hour and it was not worth it, but that is not the fault of the BGB.

“Doing 2 of Barcelona's Must-See Places in 7 Hours!” 4/5 stars

On an impulse booked online at 530am a tour of 2 of Barcelona's most interesting attractions & I was on the tour bus by 830am to see the Gordionu winery & Montserrat monastery. Our guide, Aida & driver, Peter, took care of everything & trip went off without a hitch. Aida was full of very useful tips on what to look out for & had plenty of interesting facts to share with the small group of only 5. As a result, I got to pretty much cover everything I wanted to see – the caves, Black Madonna, choir, museum & even had time to check out the cava (Spanish champagne) before we left the winery! I am very satisfied with the quality & professionalism of our tour guide & driver and would recommend this agency anytime! Definitely one of the best combination tours to do for a day. Bring along a jacket or sweater as the caves & the monastery can be a bit nippy.
